Here are the games released during 2025 that have won major industry awards or received nominations for those awards. We’ll update our awards tracker whenever new awards and nominations are announced. Demon’s Souls remake was released at the PS5’s launch in November 2020.
This entry may seem like the most obvious improvement, but it shouldn’t be overlooked. The overhaul in assets that was done to Demon’s Souls turns a 2009 title into one of the most beautiful modern games in existence. It really showcases the power behind the PS5 and what it will be capable of in the coming years. Almost all of the enemies and bosses retain their same level of interest, but they’ve been given a fresh coat of paint that makes them scarier and more formidable looking in almost every instance. With the release of the Dark Souls Trilogy and Bloodborne, it’s wild to look back at the original Demon’s Souls and see players struggle with rolling. In the modern titles, players are able to roll omnidirectionally in order to avoid enemy attacks and position themselves accordingly.
Popular Games
Encountered in a ruin roughly halfway through 4-1, the Adjudicator Shield, while not a weapon in a traditional sense, is an excellent complementary piece for builds that aren’t excessively reliant on parrying or dexterity. Classified as a large shield, it’s not practical in all situations, and it doesn’t even negate one hundred percent of incoming damage. I even took time to stop and appreciate the fidelity of the flowing sewage in the game’s notoriously gross Valley of Defilement. Some things have changed in the new Demon’s Souls, occasionally out of necessity. TG88 com ’s music has been re-recorded and is richly textured and gorgeous.
Enemies
Turn around, to see a Boletaria Soldier at the end of a corridor. The Boletaria Soldier will throw a Firebomb blowing everything up in flames, so be patient and wait until this attack. Now head left and go down the stairs, you will see two Dreglings approaching. One of the Dreglings, will probably hit the barrels and burst up in flames, killing himself. Face the other one, try to lure him upstairs, so you can fight without having to worry about falling down while rolling or dodging. Once you get past the dead animal with crows over it, you can see on your left another barricade, that hides two Dreglings.
And similar to Ghost of Tsushima, and that game’s “Kurosawa mode,” Demon’s Souls will let players enjoy the whole of the game using visual filters. Polygon recently spoke with the game’s creative director, Gavin Moore, who is overseeing the project at Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios. Moore said that the PS5 remake of Demon’s Souls will retain what players love about the PS3 version, while improving aspects of the original — and making a few small, but surprising changes along the way. The Demon’s Souls remake on PlayStation 5 is almost the exact same experience, gameplay-wise, as the 2009 PlayStation 3 original.
